DUCKS, CRANES, WOW WHAT A DAY OF BIRDS

I wish I could have somehow captured the noise that the ducks were making as they flew above us this morning. I know you cannot tell they are ducks, but they were. When you click on my photo you can see spots in the sky. What a site.

Dan "look, do you want to stop?", Darlene "yes". Two beautiful cranes just hanging out as we were driving home from the store today. Spring is in the air.

MOM'S "78" BIRTHDAY

We had such a nice drive into the city to celebrate my Mom's Birthday.
I love San Francisco.
We arrived at Mom's and started taking photos. Mom and Dan on Mom's deck.

Mom and me, then off to lunch at the Garden Club in South San Francisco where we met up with Elaine and Bruce to celebrate. After eating our lunch, Mom was given a scoop of vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup and whipped cream and a lit candle to wish her Happy Birthday. We all sang Happy Birthday to her. What a nice Birthday Celebration.
After lunch it was back to Mom's without Bruce who had to work. Elaine, Dan and Mom
Elaine, Mom and me
My sister, Elaine, bought the most delicious cake for Mom's Birthday from Lunardi's in San Bruno called Burnt Almond.
We met Mom's next door neighbor who bought the family home of long time next door neighbors. He has made some changes and wanted to share what he has done. He gave me one of his beautiful cactus plants, right out of his ground to take home and plant in our yard.
I am so glad that we live close enough to do day trips to Mom's house and to celebrate with her.
Love you Mom!!

A HOLE IN THE SKY

There was a hole in the sky after the rain and rainbow were gone.

WHAT A BEAUTIFUL RAINBOW

After today's downpour I crossed our street to photograph this rainbow. It was larger than I could get in one picture.

MOM'S BIRTHDAY

Tomorrow is my Mom's "78" birthday, so I bought her African Violets. This has always been her favorite plant. I remember one sitting in our kitchen window when we were young. Great memories.

DAFFODILS

Spring is in the air. I bought this bunch of Daffodils yesterday and today most were open. So beautiful. I love this time of the year.

ANOTHER GREAT SUNSET

I looked out our front window and saw reddish orange in the sky. I grabbed my camera, took a photo and went to our backyard and tried to get a better photo of an almost gone sunset. I am in awe of how beautiful the sky can look. Wish I had a better view, but will settle for what I can get.

THE SUNSHINE AND SOME YUMMY GRASS

There is nothing like Oscar snoozing on the back of our Futon in the sun except for....
being in our backyard, enjoying this very warm and wonderful sunshine....
or shading Oscar so he can enjoy eating some grass. Yes, he is very spoiled, but why not.

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY

Not your typical Valentine's Day Balloon as they had run out by the time we got to the store. I chose one that I felt fit the day perfectly. A Blog that my good friend and I started is tropical so why not get something to go with that theme.

IT'S SUPER BOWL SUNDAY, TIME FOR A FEAST AND A GOOD FOOTBALL GAME

This was my lunch. A lightly barbecued Sacramento Kings hot dog cut up and dipped in ketchup, black olives, San Francisco Sliced Sweet French Rolls cubed to dip in my homemade Spinach Dip, deli sliced boiled ham rolled with whipped cream cheese in the middle and cut into bite size pieces, 3 small prawns with McCormick Cocktail Sauce and a luscious brownie from our grocery store, Bel Air.
Next was dinner. I sliced some Sweet French Bread, spread some margarine on it, made a package of Marie Calendars cornbread and had a piece of it, my husband warmed up Signature Cafe - St. Louis-Style Smokehouse Red Ribs (purchased at Safeway for $5.00), also 3 wings barbecued by my wonderful husband and a few of the 20 sauteed mushrooms stuffed with (6 ounces of Nob Hill Artichoke Dip pureed with a few chopped mushrooms, 1/8 cup Progresso Plain Bread Crumbs, sprinkled with a little Parmesan cheese and cooked in my toaster oven at 350 degrees for 20 minutes). We also warmed up a can of Trader Joes turkey chili to pour over a slice of our cornbread in a small cup, but I could not finish mine. I went back for seconds later, and feel as though I cannot move now as I am stuffed. What a great day we had we had. The sun was shining here. There were some very good Super Bowl commercials, but not like years past. The BIG NEWS IS THAT The New Orleans Saints won their very FIRST Super Bowl.

QUIT TAKING PICTURES OF ME

Another lazy day for Oscar. Actually everyday is a lazy day for most 6 1/2 year old cats in the Winter. He plopped himself in my chair and slept for hours as usual. I thought I would be sneaky and try to catch a good photo of him sleeping, but he woke and just as he started to yawn I snapped a picture and he went back to sleep. I looked at my photos and realized that I got a good yawning photo of him. Good job Oscar!!

A Day Like Spring In The Midst Of Winter

I looked at Oscar sleeping in the warmth of the sun on the back of our Futon, and he looked as I remember him on the day we rescued him last September. He was in a cage and laying there sleeping. The sun is coming and going today. Oscar and I deserve to get out and enjoy a bit of the sun.
I quietly went out back and snapped a few photos of my beautiful Pineapple Sage plant. It sure has lots of blossoms to feed the hummingbirds that stop by. I saw that Oscar was now sitting up on the Futon so I called him, and he came running to go outside with me.
I took a chance and let Oscar come out without his harness and leash. He was looking everywhere, especially at the fence and the birds. I picked him up, took him inside, put on his harness and leash and back out we went with his treats.

Oscar loves my Pineapple Sage and being in our backyard, in the sun, with the birds flying around and singing. But with the bark of our neighbors dog and our neighbor trying to quiet her dog, Oscar flew in our back door with me holding onto his leash. He finally runs in the right direction, not towards what scares him, and that direction is home. He has come a long way since we rescued him last September.
I promised a friend that I would snap a few photos of our pool, and today seemed like a good day to do so. If only it was HOT outside, you know where I would be.
What are you doing? I would like to go outside again. The neighbors dog is still barking, so that is not such a good idea. It was nice to get out for a little sunshine in the midst of Winter.

DREAM WHAT YOU WANT TO DREAM
GO WHERE YOU WANT TO GO
BE WHAT YOU WANT TO BE
BECAUSE YOU ONLY HAVE ONE LIFE
AND ONE CHANCE TO DO ALL THE THINGS
YOU WANT TO DO

I MISSED THE SUNSET BUT GOT THE CLOUDS ON SUNDAY EVENING

It was so beautiful here yesterday, 60 degrees. What a nice end to a wonderful weekend. I got out late to take photos, as I made a huge pot of turkey soup from our wonderful barbecue turkey. I was so glad that I put my recipe on my Thanksgiving post to follow.
We had a few errands to run during the day yesterday. As we left our house, we saw in the distance the beautifully white capped Sierra mountains. We both wished we had the time to keep driving towards them as the weather was perfectly clear and warm. Next weekend, if the weather permits, we will drive to the mountains. Something wonderful to look forward to.

OSCAR LOVES HIS TREATS - ERIK GOT THE LUCK OF GIVING THEM TO OSCAR

Erik arrived home from work and pulled a drink in foil from the refrigerator. Oscar heard the crinkle of Erik's drink. It sounded just like his treat bag. The rest is history. Oscar arrived in the kitchen to get treats immediately. A few meows later, he was stretched up on Erik's leg to get his treats ever so gently.

ANOTHER BARBEQUED TURKEY AND ANOTHER BEAUTIFUL DAY

I was thrilled to find a $9.99 frozen turkey during the week, so we had another charcoal barbecued turkey on Saturday, just like the one I posted for Thanksgiving.
The day slipped by me so fast that I ran outside to see how much sunset was left. Definitely not the sunset that I photographed previously, but still beautiful, so I snapped a few photos. I think I am going to set an alarm clock or timer so I get outside near sundown on days like this.
