HENNINGSEN LOTUS PARK, EL DORADO COUNTY - 8/20/2011 - DAY TRIP

We decided to take a short day trip to Coloma,
to check it out and see what we could see
of the American River
Just before we got to the town we saw a
park along the American River

There was a $3.00 fee to get in
but that is to be expected
when going to a park

We sat in the shade and listened to
music that Dan brought with us
and enjoyed watching families and
rafters enjoy the American River

We decided to take a walk beside the river
within the park on a concrete walkway
which eventually had a large dirt area to the left
that led us to a dirt path to get closer to the river
and allowed you to climb down at some spots
to get closer to the river if you wanted to.
We opted out of doing this as we were close enough
and not into climbing down these steep areas

So glad we did this, although it was mostly in
the sun and pretty hot unlike sitting in the shade

It was beautiful

We enjoyed our walk and will have to
come back to the area to see more of the river
and check out the bridges that we noticed
as we were leaving and started
driving down the road

Too bad we did not drive in this way
as they had signs on both sides of the road
We passed signs that said:
HUNGRY?
WHOLE PIG
CHICKEN
BURGERS AND HOT DOGS
PIE AND ICE CREAM
MUSIC

We then saw
TURN RIGHT
and drove by where it was held
11am-5pm
August 20-21
We missed it and probably just as well as we were
sure it was crowded, but sure sounded like fun

It was a great afternoon at the park and a fun drive

DEBBIE'S CANCER BATTLE- 8/15/2011

I had a chance to talk to Debbie briefly this morning as I call her every day, but today is different, she is writing notes and barely able to talk. She does not want to go. She is so aware of what is happening but so weak and whispering and crying, which makes her worse. She is a very strong woman who has fought quite a fight. She said "I Love You" and I said "I Love You". I wrote out a card and mailed it today, hoping it will get to her in time, and in the same respect hoping she gets her wings soon so her suffering will end. Hugs, love and a tight hand hold to you, my friend.

THE WEEKEND

Our day trip to Calaveras Big Trees took everything out of me for the week, so this past weekend, we did our grocery shopping, watched tv, I hung out some on my computer and took a couple of naps. I look forward to going on another day trip soon.

CALAVERAS BIG TREES STATE PARK - DAY TRIP - 8/6/2011

On the spur of the moment we decided to drive to
Calaveras Big Trees State Park
Packed the car with chairs, towels,
drinks and food and off we went

I was glad it was considered an easy trail
as it was 1 1/2 miles long and pretty flat.

There were so many beautiful spots
to stop and take photos

What a gorgeous place to spend time

Some of the trees are enormous

Not all of the trail was wood
but most of it was

The color of some of the trees
was so beautiful

So many trees were so tall
that it was impossible to get a photo
of an entire tree

What an awesome mix of plants among the trees

The dirt trails were a bit rocky
but nice to walk on
though next time we will wear old shoes
as our shoes got pretty dirty

I did not know whether to photograph
the bottom or aim for the top

You can tell how large these trees are

with each one of us standing in front of the base
of the trunk

Some trees have fallen over the years

Check out the inside of this tree
You can see all the way through it

This fallen tree is cut in 1/2
The path changed here and in many other places
from wood to dirt

This has got to be my favorite color tree

This was called Father-of-the-past
see all about it below
BEAUTIFUL!!

You could walk inside of it

I took a photo of a couple passing by
and they returned the favor

We both had so much fun

Dan really enjoyed himself

WINDOW ON THE PAST
PIONEER CABIN TREE
see info about it below
Breathtaking!!

Near the end of our walk
was this beautiful place to take photos

I took a photo of a young family with their camera
and they returned the favor

Our last stop along the trail
and now to mark this off on
our Bucket List

Our trip home, peaceful and desolate as we went home
a different way and bypassed the towns we went through
on our way there. What a great day.
