MY PINEAPPLE SAGE BRINGS A WONDERFUL AROMA AND HUMMINGBIRDS TO MY BACKYARD

Last Spring I purchased a wonderful plant called a Pineapple Sage. When you rub a leaf between your fingers, it smells like fresh Pineapple. It finally started blossoming in November. Once this plant blossoms, hummingbirds come to get the nectar from each tubular blossom. I snapped a somewhat blurry photo of a hummingbird that arrived to get the nectar from many blossoms and then flew away. Today my Pineapple Sage is full of blossoms and smells wonderful. My friend in Texas also purchased a Pineapple Sage last year but it blossomed much earlier than mine. It may be the difference between her climate in Texas and mine in California. You can bake with the leaves and flowers, but I chose to leave it alone for the hummingbirds to enjoy. I hope you have the chance to get one of these beautiful plants.

  1. How neat to show the progression in photos! I never got hummingbirds though. I may take it over to my daughter's and see if she gets hummingbirds as one of the neighbors there has hummingbird feeders up. Love your music!

  2. I remembered that I had photos going almost back to the purchase of this plant, so I thought it would be fun to see it all in one post. I got lucky enough to be outside and have my camera in my hand when this hummingbird came into our yard. You may be getting them and just not see them, though my neighbor does have a hummingbird feeder and that may be why we get them here. Good idea to put it at your daughter's house. Thanks for the comment on my music. I have been enjoying it myself.

  4. Did you try Pineapple Sage fresh or in baked goods? How did you like it? Animals always come first, but I would try one fresh leaf and one flower out of curiosity. Thank you for visiting my Blog.
